This guide covers all remaining 2026 CFA exam dates 2026, the full 2027 calendar, registration and scheduling deadlines for every window, fees, the step-by-step registration process, exam pattern, result timelines, what to bring on exam day, and how to choose the right window for your preparation schedule. - CFA exam results: Level 1 and 2 results typically arrive 5-8 weeks after the window closes. Level 3 results take slightly longer due to manual grading of essay responses.
Key Takeaways
- CFA exam dates 2026 still open for registration are November 11-17 for Level 1 and November 18-22 for Level 2. The August 2026 window has closed for registration. Level 3 has no November window.
- Registration and scheduling are two separate steps with separate deadlines. The scheduling deadline for November 2026 is August 18, 2026. Missing it means forfeiting the full registration fee.
- Every CFA exam window from February 2027 uses the updated 2027 curriculum, and paid deferrals no longer exist from February 2027, so missing that exam means paying the full registration fee again.

What Is the CFA Exam?
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam is a globally recognised professional credential in investment management, administered by CFA Institute. The programme has three sequential levels. Level 1 covers a broad foundation in finance, ethics, and analysis. Level 2 applies those concepts through complex company and industry vignettes. Level 3 focuses on portfolio management, wealth planning, and constructed-response questions.
To earn the CFA charter, you must pass all three CFA exam levels, complete 4,000 hours of relevant professional work experience, and submit professional references to CFA Institute. All exams are computer-based and held at Prometric test centres worldwide.

Other Details Regarding CFA Exam Registration Dates
CFA Institute uses two-tier pricing: early registration and standard registration. Early registration saves USD 350 per exam. The standard window stays open longer but costs more.
Registration Opening Date
November 2026 registration for Levels 1 and 2 opened February 11, 2026.
Early Registration Deadline
April 15, 2026 for November 2026. This window is now closed. Candidates registering now pay the standard rate.
Standard Registration Deadline
August 11, 2026 for November 2026 Levels 1 and 2. This is the last date to pay the exam registration fee for November 2026.
Invoice Payment Deadline
Candidates paying via invoice or wire transfer face a separate, earlier deadline. For November 2026, the invoice payment deadline is approximately September 19, 2026. If you plan to pay offline, act before this date, not the standard registration deadline.
Scheduling Deadline
Paying the registration fee does not book your Prometric seat. After payment, you must schedule your exam through Prometric’s ProScheduler tool. The scheduling deadline for November 2026 is August 18, 2026. Missing this deadline means you cannot sit the exam and you forfeit your registration fees.
Rescheduling Deadline
After scheduling, you can change your date or test centre within the same window by paying USD 250. The rescheduling deadline for November 2026 is approximately late October 2026, about one to two weeks before the exam window opens. Check cfainstitute.org for the exact date.
CFA Exam Windows in 2027
2027 is key for two reasons. First, November 2026 is the last window on the current 2026 curriculum. Every window from February 2027 onwards uses the 2027 curriculum, which includes new content at Level 1 including AI and data science readings, expanded equity coverage, and restructured ethics. Second, paid deferrals end from February 2027: if you miss a 2027 exam, you forfeit the full fee.
| Window | Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | Reg Opens | Standard Deadline |
| February 2027 | Feb 22-28 | Not offered | Feb 18-21 | May 5, 2026 | Nov 5, 2026 |
| May 2027 | TBC | TBC | Not offered | Aug 12, 2026 | Feb 10, 2027 |
| August 2027 | TBC | TBC | TBC | Nov 2026 (est.) | TBA |
CFA Exam Fees and Key Deadlines
The CFA exam fees depend on level and registration timing.
| Level | Early Reg (USD) | Standard Reg (USD) | Rescheduling Fee | Enrollment Fee |
| Level 1 | 1,140 | 1,490 | 250 | 0 |
| Level 2 | 1,140 | 1,490 | 250 | 0 |
| Level 3 | 1,240 | 1,590 | 250 | 0 |
The one-time USD 350 enrollment fee was removed from April 29, 2025. No candidate pays it from February 2026 onwards.
Total cost if you pass all three levels on first attempts with early registration: USD 3,520.
CFA exam fees in Indian rupees: All fees are billed in USD. At approximately Rs 95/USD (July 2026), early registration for Level 1 costs approximately Rs 1,08,300 before 18% GST, and approximately Rs 1,27,794 after GST. India-resident candidates pay 18% GST under OIDAR rules, added automatically at checkout.
How much does the CFA exam cost in total across three levels? USD 3,520 at early registration, or up to USD 4,570 at standard rates. After 18% GST at Rs 95/USD, the exam-fee-only total ranges from approximately Rs 3.95 lakh to Rs 5.1 lakh.

CFA Registration and Exam Scheduling Are Different
Many candidates pay their fee and assume they are done. They are not.
What CFA Registration Confirms
Registration confirms your exam level, your target exam window, and your payment. It does not reserve a seat at any test centre. It does not confirm a date, time, or location.
What CFA Exam Scheduling Confirms
Scheduling is done separately through Prometric’s ProScheduler tool, accessed via your CFA Institute candidate portal after payment is processed. Scheduling confirms your specific date, time, and test centre. Seats are allocated first-come, first-served. Popular cities in India including Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore fill up fast, especially weekend slots.
What Happens If You Miss the Scheduling Deadline?
If you pay the registration fee but fail to complete scheduling before the scheduling deadline, you cannot sit the exam. You also cannot recover the registration fee. For November 2026, the scheduling deadline is August 18, 2026. Book your Prometric slot the same day you pay the registration fee.
How CFA Registration Works and the Rules That Catch People
CFA Institute has rules on attempt frequency, window gaps, and seat limits that catch candidates off guard every cycle. These are not buried in fine print. They are enforced automatically when you try to register. Read these before you pick a window.
Maximum CFA Attempts per Calendar Year
You can sit the CFA exam at most twice in one calendar year at any given level. Registering early for all available windows in a calendar year is not permitted.
Gap Required Between CFA Attempts
You cannot sit the same level in consecutive windows or in windows less than six months apart. If you sit Level 1 in August 2026, the earliest you can retake it is February 2027, not November 2026.
Consecutive Exam-Window Restrictions
Back-to-back windows are not allowed for the same level. The six-month gap rule applies across all levels and windows.
Maximum Attempts Allowed per CFA Level
CFA Institute allows a maximum of six attempts per exam level across your entire candidacy. This limit applies regardless of the reason for each attempt.
Registration Alone Does Not Reserve an Exam Seat
This point cannot be overstated. Paying your registration fee is Step 1. Scheduling your Prometric appointment is Step 2. Both must be completed by their respective deadlines or you forfeit your fees.

How to register for CFA exam in ten steps:

CFA Exam Pattern for Each Level
All three levels are computer-based and held at Prometric centres. The question format, session length, and grading method differ by level. Level 1 tests breadth. Level 2 tests application through case-based vignettes. Level 3 tests judgment through essay and item set questions.
CFA Level 1 Exam Pattern
Level 1 has 180 multiple-choice questions split into two sessions of 90 questions each. Each session is 2 hours 15 minutes with an optional break between sessions. All questions test knowledge and comprehension across 10 subject areas. The exam is computer-based and held at Prometric centres.
CFA Level 2 Exam Pattern
Level 2 has 88 item set questions across two sessions. Each item set consists of a vignette (a mini case study) followed by 4 or 6 multiple-choice questions. Sessions are 2 hours 12 minutes each. Questions require application and analysis, not just recall.
CFA Level 3 Exam Pattern
Level 3 has two sections in each session. The morning session uses constructed-response (essay) questions. The afternoon session uses item sets similar to Level 2. Level 3 also reflects the Specialised Pathway selected at registration. Essay responses are graded manually by CFA charterholders, which is why Level 3 results take slightly longer than Levels 1 and 2.
CFA Exam Duration and Session Structure
All three levels follow a two-session structure with an optional break in between. Total exam time per level is approximately 4.5 hours of active testing.
Break Between CFA Exam Sessions
The break between sessions is optional and unscheduled. You do not have to leave the testing room. The break time does not add to your testing time.
CFA Exam Results Timeline
CFA Institute releases results by email and through your candidate account. You do not receive your score. You get a pass or fail decision and a performance breakdown by topic area. Plan your next window around the result date, not around when you think you passed.
CFA Level 1 Result Timeline
Level 1 results are typically released 5-7 weeks after the close of the exam window. For August 2026 (window closes August 24), the earliest likely result date is early October 2026. For November 2026 (window closes November 17), the earliest likely result date is early January 2027.
CFA Level 2 Result Timeline
Level 2 results follow the same 5-8 week timeline as Level 1. For August 2026 (window closes August 29), results are expected in October 2026.
CFA Level 3 Result Timeline
Level 3 results take slightly longer due to manual grading of the essay section. Expect 8-10 weeks after the window closes. For August 2026 (window closes August 17), results are expected in October or November 2026.
How CFA Exam Results Are Delivered
CFA Institute sends an email notification when results are available. Log in to your candidate account to view your result. You receive a pass or fail outcome plus a performance summary by topic area.
Planning Your Next Exam After Results
If you pass, your next level becomes available for registration immediately. If you fail, you can register for the next eligible window for the same level, subject to the six-month gap rule and the two-attempts-per-year limit.
Which CFA Exam Window Should You Pick?
No single window suits every candidate. The right choice depends on how much time you have to study, what else is happening in your life during that period, and which curriculum year you are preparing for. Factor in all of these before registering.
Choose Based on Your Preparation Time
CFA Institute recommends at least 300 hours of study per level. Work backwards from your realistic study start date. If you can genuinely start today and study consistently, November 2026 is your nearest option. If you need more time, February 2027 for Level 1 is the sensible choice.
Choose Based on College Commitments
Students in final year or with semester exams in October or November should avoid the November 2026 window and target February 2027 or May 2027 instead.
Choose Based on Work Commitments
Working professionals in investment banking, audit season, or project-heavy roles should map their busy periods before choosing a window. A November window that overlaps with an end-of-year close or audit deadline is rarely a good idea.
Choose Based on Test-Centre Availability
Indian cities with higher candidate volume, including Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore, fill up faster. If your preferred city has limited slots, choosing an earlier window within the registration period gives you more appointment options.
Choose Based on the CFA Curriculum Year
November 2026 is the last window on the current 2026 curriculum. Every window from February 2027 onwards uses the 2027 curriculum, which has been updated at Level 1. If you are mid-preparation on current materials, November 2026 keeps you on familiar ground. If you are starting fresh, begin with the 2027 curriculum and target February or May 2027.
Choose Based on Your Previous Attempt
If you sat August 2026 and are waiting for results, the earliest you can retake is February 2027 for Level 3 or November 2026 for Levels 1 and 2 (if at least six months have passed since your previous attempt date, which they may not have). Confirm your eligibility in your CFA Institute account before registering.
What to Bring With You on CFA Exam Day
Prometric check-in is strict. Showing up with the wrong ID or a prohibited calculator means you cannot sit the exam, and CFA Institute will not refund the fee. Get this right well before exam day, not on the morning of.
Valid International Passport
Your international travel passport is the only accepted form of identity at Prometric test centres. Driving licences, Aadhaar, PAN cards, and any other ID are not accepted. The name on your passport must match the name in your CFA Institute account exactly.
Approved CFA Calculator
Only two calculators are permitted in the exam room: the Texas Instruments BA II Plus and the HP 12C. All other calculators, including scientific and graphing calculators, are prohibited. Bring your calculator. You cannot borrow one or use the computer’s onscreen tools during the exam.
Prometric Appointment Confirmation
Bring your printed or digital Prometric appointment confirmation. You should also have your CFA Institute candidate ID number available.
When to Reach the Test Centre
Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Late arrivals may be turned away. Prometric check-in procedures include identity verification, biometric scanning, and a personal-belongings inspection.
Items Not Allowed at the CFA Test Centre
Prometric requires all personal belongings to be locked away before you enter the testing room. Anything not on the permitted list stays in the locker. If Prometric staff find a prohibited item during check-in, you will not be allowed to sit the exam.
- Any calculator other than the TI BA II Plus or HP 12C
- Mobile phones and smartwatches
- Earphones, earbuds, or headphones
- Study notes, textbooks, or printed material
- Food and drinks (unless permitted for medical reasons with prior approval)
- Bags and personal belongings beyond what Prometric allows in the testing room
- Any electronic recording or communication device
Personal items must be stored in a locker provided by Prometric before entering the testing room.
CFA Test Centres in India
India has approximately 30 Prometric test centre cities for CFA exams. Seats are not pre-assigned. They are booked during the Prometric scheduling step after you pay your registration fee. Cities with higher candidate volume fill up faster, and there is no waitlist. Book early.
How to Find an Available CFA Test Centre
After completing payment and registration, access Prometric’s ProScheduler through your CFA Institute portal. Search for your preferred city or the nearest available centre. India has approximately 30 Prometric test centre cities including Delhi NCR (New Delhi, Noida, Gurugram), Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Indore, and Kochi.
When to Schedule Your Test Centre
Schedule your Prometric appointment the same day you pay the registration fee. Seats are allocated first-come, first-served. Waiting a week or two can mean your preferred date or city is no longer available.
What If Your Preferred City Is Unavailable?
If your first-choice city is full, Prometric will show alternative locations. You can select the nearest available centre or wait and check again as seats may open if other candidates cancel. There is no guarantee a preferred city will have seats available close to the scheduling deadline.
Can You Change Your CFA Test Centre?
Yes, within the same exam window before the rescheduling deadline, by paying the USD 250 rescheduling fee. Log in to your CFA Institute account, go to Manage Your Exam, and use ProScheduler to select a new centre or date.
Why Choose Amquest Education for CFA Preparation?
Knowing the CFA exam dates is the starting point. Clearing the exam on the first attempt is what keeps your total spend and time commitment under control. Amquest Education prepares CFA candidates across all three levels with faculty who have cleared the programme. Preparation is matched to your specific exam window, not a generic schedule. The focus is on application: item set technique at Level 2, essay construction at Level 3, and time management across all levels. Mock exams and doubt-clearing are built into the programme.
Ready to prep for your target window?
Conclusion
The CFA exam schedule is fixed but the choice of window is yours. For most candidates in India as of late July 2026, November 2026 is the nearest open window for Levels 1 and 2, and August 2026 (registration now closed) was the last chance for Level 3 this year. The next Level 3 window is February 2027. Set your scheduling appointment the day you pay. The window is yours only when Prometric confirms the seat.
For structured preparation matched to your target window, you can speak with a counselor about your timeline.
